solipsistic girl summer
gig announcement, playlist + one week countdown to our belfast show for volume control
Hi, friends.
We have a new show to announce, so keep reading for more info on that. But first, allow me to engage in some yapping about summer, memory, and books. I would apologise for the self-indulgent rambling but you literally signed up for this, soooo…
I think June is a month of duality. Happy and Sad by Kacey Musgraves. Sunshine and showers. The ending of an academic year and the beginning of summer. I always feel nostalgic at this time of year, thinking about past seasons of life. The little Lauren revising in muggy heat and feeling a fizzy hum of excitement, daydreaming about the future.

I’ve been reading Saltwater by Jessica Andrews, a coming of age novel about a young woman who moves from London to Donegal. The book is structured in vignettes, flitting between past and present. It reminds me of the randomness of human memory, and the way in which our brains will offer up a slice of the past, prompted by a familiar sound or smell or feeling. She writes so beautifully about the granular details of girlhood. It made me want to hug my younger self. So, I made a playlist, inspired by Saltwater and June, our mercurial friend. The happy and the sad, the past and the present, the bitter and the sweet. All of these things existing at the same time.
And while I’m on the topic of summer, it seems fitting to announce a gig at home on the north coast later this year! We are thrilled to be headlining Coaster this August. It’s a mini festival with a bumper line-up, celebrating grassroots music and the skate culture of Portrush. We can’t wait. Tickets on sale here.
Before I disappear, one more thing—it is ONE WEEK until our Belfast show at the Oh Yeah Music Centre for Volume Control! If you’d like to go, we sincerely urge you to grab a ticket in advance, to avoid any disappointment. We are planning an exciting set list for this one, with some songs from our next record getting their live debut.
Thanks for reading! byeeee
