We are thrilled to announce our first Belfast show of the year at the Oh Yeah Music Centre with Volume Control. It means a lot to us to be headlining this venue, as it really exists at the heart of our band. All of our early practices were in the Strummerville rehearsal rooms, we recorded our first EP in Start Together Studio upstairs, and I (Lauren) even spent a term at Volume Control putting on all ages shows when I was a teenager. At our first meeting, they pulled a projector screen down in front of the stage, pushed the iconic red sofas into the middle of the room and screened ‘Good Vibrations’ (2013) for us. It was my first introduction to the legacy of the Belfast music scene and I felt a rush of excitement thinking about the sticky floors and late nights and loud music that lay ahead. I didn’t really look back after that.
We’re going to be playing songs from Grandstand and some other ones too. We can’t say too much, for obvious reasons, but we think it will be pretty class. The Volume Control team are a really brilliant group of young people. Budding journalists, promoters, producers, sound engineers, stage managers, designers, and musicians themselves, they are going to go onto do amazing things. This is the last show for the current cohort, so we really hope you can support them by buying a ticket or sharing the poster/ticket link.
And a quick word about the supports—these three acts are absolutely stellar, and we are honoured to share a line-up with them. Martha makes the kind of indie folk that makes your heart a bit sore, but in a good way. Cairo Station’s sound is awash with expansive guitars and Cara’s voice has so much power and clarity. And Disorder are indie giants in the making, with equal amounts of grit and swagger. We love them.
Tickets are on sale now. We hope to see you there.
Love,
